ABOUT LA PORTE, TEXAS
The City of La Porte was established in 1882 as a resort town on Galveston Bay. Visitors drove their cars or rode an excursion train from Houston to La Porte to visit Sylvan Beach, then known as the “Playground of the South.” Famous orchestras and film stars provided entertainment throughout the summers until 1930. The original depot has been restored as a museum with memorabilia from Sylvan Beach, the Pavilion, railroads, and artifacts from La Porte’s early history.
La Porte offers a golf course, wave pool, museums, parks, skate park, hike and bike trails for bird watching, and the newly developed Sylvan Beach area, mostly within a 5-minute drive from Pelican Bay.
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

Hurricane watch: Be prepared! Hurricane conditions are possible.
Hurricane warning: Take action! Hurricane conditions are expected.
