Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane Season is June 1 to November 30, with mid-September being the peak season in the Gulf.
Hurricanes have winds of at least 74 mph and form over warm water (80 degrees F +}. While the eye of the storm has calm winds, the strongest winds surround this area. Tornadoes and storm surge can be devastating - do not stay in the area when officials call for an evacuation.
Hurricane watch: Be prepared! Hurricane conditions are possible.
Hurricane warning: Take action! Hurricane conditions are expected.

- Practice these plans with your family!
Register for Notifications

Protect Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities

- Transportation needs, if assistance is required during an evacuation
- How to transport assistive devices
- A support network of individuals who can assist you, if needed
- Provide local responders with information about your specific needs during an emergency by registering for the STEAR Program at stear.tdem.texas.gov, or dial 2-1-1.
Know Evacuation Routes
- Refer to local guidance on current evacuation orders and routes
